Rakhi Ka Swayamvar ???

She's once again ready to hog the limelight. The “drama queen”, “controversy queen”, “item queen”, you name it, has once again captured the audiences’ attention with her latest show, “Rakhi Ka Swayamvar”.
It looks like this is just another of her various "tamashas" that she has created one after the other in the past and has gained so much popularity amongst the public.

All I know about this show is that, through this show, she will choose her groom from a bunch of fools and another point I have to add is, from the promos I realized that she certainly seems way sober and so not the “drama queen” that’s coined for her.
Well as for me, I had absolutely no interest in Rakhi Savant, so when I heard of this show I was like, ”FUH-GET-IT!!!”

Its high TRP’s was no surprise considering how reality show-hungry and entertainment-hungry the public is these days but what took me by surprise was when one of my friends told me that she never missed a show cause it really was interesting.
My curiosity got the better of me and I thought why not watch an episode and check for myself.

It is a show where some 15 “out-of-their-mind” men woo Rakhi to win her heart and take her to be their newly wedded wife. Rakhi will eliminate one by one all those who do not appeal to her and satisfy all the qualities she expects, those being:
She doesn’t want someone who is extremely rich (YEAH RITE!!!) but it is necessary that he should be good at heart.
She wants someone who can dance well (WHAT??? LIKE SHE’S GONNA START SOME DANCE SCHOOL WITH HIM!!!!)
She wants someone who has good knowledge of cricket (???? I’M AS CLUELESS AS YOU)
She wouldn’t mind someone bald but he shouldn’t be fat.
She wants a mother-in-law like Bindu who would be as “spicy” as her. As she says in her “Oh so dramatized-tone”, “aag aur pani ka milan acha nahi hota, aag ke saat aag hi hona chaiye, so spice hona chaiye, so mujhe mujse bhi zyada spicy saas chahiye.”(Well all I can say is “arrrrrgggg”, but at the same time made me ROFL :))

So with these conditions she sets off to choose her “one fool-in a-million fools” groom.
As obvious, the show involves filmy songs and of course filmy dialogues from both the ends- Rakhi as well as the contestants.
It involves singing, dancing, physical tasks, mental tasks and chats to get to know each other, which includes such artificial and fake dialogues that are extra sweet. (So diabetic patients, please BEWARE!)
And the funniest part comes after they have performed the tasks when Rakhi starts her drama by crying and saying how happy she is that the men are taking pains and doing these tasks “for her”.
So this way the show goes on and my laughter continues.

It surprises me to what extent she can go to gain publicity but then I realize that its Rakhi Sawant we are talking about so we can expect nothing better.
For all you may know, her boyfriend would have been made as one of the contestants and eventually he would win. So she not only gets her boyfriend as her husband but also whole lot of money from this show.

Last but not the least, after she chooses her groom and if it doesn’t work out with him, then no problem, we would have a “RAKHI KA SWAYAMVAR – SEASON 2”
So all the Rakhi fans out there, watch out, since there can be a possibility for some more entertainment!!!

Adieu Micheal Jackson

You know what comes to my mind whenever I see someone doing the moonwalk? "Michael Jackson".
Now, I'd have to say, "The Late Michael Jackson".

I was sitting with my daily cup of morning tea when I heard the TV buzzing with the news of the sad demise of the "King of Pop" due to a cardiac arrest. Every newschannel seemed to broadcast only this one news, showing his million fans devestated and shocked.

I'm not really a fan of Michael Jackson although I do like a few of his songs like 'Thriller', 'We are the World', 'Heal the World','Earth Song', 'they dont really care about us' and my favourite 'Black or White'.

His songs were not only "music" to the ears but they also spread a message to the world.
To think of him dying at a young age is a tragic loss to this world and the pop genre. But when I look back, I cant help but think that this was to come, with the news of his health and the gaunt and pale look on his face.

Michael Jackson was equivalent to what Elvis Presley was in his era.
He's given a platform and been an insipiration to various pop artists of recent times like Chris Brown, Usher, Black Eyed Peas etc and even the youth. If there was one word to be used for his dance moves, it would be "electrifying".
He was a person bursting with enthusiasm and energy which clearly showed in his music and his dance. In short, he was one of a kind.
His endless love for children has given life to so many of them. He has also given his support to many other social causes but the charges pressed on him for molesting a child which were later cleared, the shocking video footage of him dangling his child from the balcony did put some dark spots on his character but he still received the unending support from his million of fans all over the world.

It's very sad to think of all fans who would have to cancel their trip to his so-called comeback concert to have taken place this July end but he will always remain in our hearts forever.
RIP MJ.

MY MUMMY DEAREST !!

Maybe, I should be thinking of what you would say if I fair badly in my coming viva and exams but instead on this special day I’d like to tell you how much you mean to me and that I really appreciate all you’ve done for me.
There are so many incidents that happened so long back but I can recollect it as though it happened only yesterday. Maybe that’s because most of them just keep reiterating even until now…after all bad habits die hard na….:):):)
I’d like to jot down a few of them. Hope you enjoy this ride down memory lane as much as I did.
I am sure anyone would agree that no one but a mother would react this way….:):):)

Feel proud when I left your hand and ran excitedly for my first day at school.
Patiently and intently listen to my stories that I may have told countless times.
Look in awe and praise my paintings, which were actually just scribbling.
For adoring my naughtiness when I used to jump into the freshly done bed.
Hide the cashews in a place where you knew I’d find them.
Listen to the petty squabbles I had with my best friend.
Sign my report card, hoping and believing I’ll do better the next term.
Laugh at the silliest jokes of mine.
Join us in the pranks played on dad.
Search every music store for my favourite music album to gift me on my birthday.
Staying beside me the entire night when I was unwell and making me feel normal.
Knowing me so well and making my favourite dish when I return home sad.
Yell at me when I do something wrong and feel bad later, on seeing me cry.
Felling twice as happy for me during my good times although you were going through bad ones.
Giving a thumb up for my new hairstyle, which really didn’t go with my look.
Calling up and making sure if I was well during all those trips away from you.
Forgiving me and loving me more even after I hurt you with my harsh words.
Having faith in me and helping me prove to a “certain stupid History teacher” about my abilities.
Always happy with the person I am and not comparing me with anyone else.
Giving me a chance to correct my mistakes without having to confess to you.
Without having to look me in the eye and knowing when I tell a lie.
Being able to discuss almost anything without even feeling the slightest tinge of discomfort.
Come to my support when dad scolds me.
Giving me my time and space when I want to be alone.
Taking my suggestions on the dish you cooked positively so it turns out perfect the next time.
Eating the partly burnt sweet dish I made, so I dont feel bad.
Always guiding me towards the right path.
Always being there for me no matter what.
Always being there to hug me and protect me with your care and love.
FOR ALWAYS LOVING ME!

LOVE YOU ALWAYS!
:):):)… HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! ENJOY YOUR DAY! … :):):)

Welcome Home!!!

(My first shot at poetry... :) )

She welcomed me with arms wide open
and a smile on her face,
But all I wanted was,
to be the last one in this race.
I could scarcely see her in the brightly lit dome,
But her voice rang in my ear,
"Welcome home,welcome home."
I swore under my breath,
did she mean a home away from home,
A place where all I could do,was only moan?
When can I go back I screamed with rage,
but all she did was smile gently like a sage
I sobbed and fell down to my knee,
when she said,"Everything has a lifespan,
after which it is of no use."
"Well your time has come and may your soul rest in peace."
She was right,
I had spent a wonderful life full of spice,
so I ran into her arms
untill the bright light could no longer blind my eyes.

Thought Provoking... Fish! Tales

When I started reading the book, FISH!TALES by Stephen Laudin, John Christensen, Harry Paul and Philip Strand, I thought, ”How is this book going to be of any use to me?” as it mainly seemed to be for the people at a workplace but the more I read the more I felt it had everything to do with every one of us be it a student, an employee or an employer so I read on…

While reading the book I realized that many of the people around me have used the FISH! Philosophy may be knowingly or unknowingly whatever be it and I appreciated it but never really implemented it myself but now I realize its importance and I will try to implement it wherever possible.

I would like to share a few of the incidents from the book that really appealed to me and made me think and a few incidents that I have come across in my every-day life.

The FISH! Philosophies that was introduced by the fishmongers of Pike Place Market of Seattle are as follows:

Play: Make it fun:
"Play is not just an activity, it’s a state of mind that brings new energy and sparks creative solutions."
Work especially a serious one gets done more quickly when done in a lighthearted and playfull manner.
Two most important requisites for play are “that it must come from within” and the other is "trust".
The fishmongers instilled play in their work by throwing the fish from the table to the counter once the order was placed. Sometimes they even made the customer catch it!
As mentioned in the book a hospital may seem like a workplace where we may not be able to implement “play” but this incident clearly proves it wrong,
On a beach party day the patients were allowed to toss a beach ball to each other. What they did not know was that this was their therapy for which they may not have put in much effort if it was in their therapy room.
Similarly in college one day the usual boring practical was made fun when the teacher introduced it as a quiz among the three rows of students. We took more interest due to the competitiveness that was introduced.

Make their day: Go MAD (Make a difference):
"Making the customers day by acting on an intention by serving them."
This can be done by turning your attention away from yourself and connecting with the other person, customer, family member or friend.
The fishmongers "made a difference" by consoling a frightened little child and cheering him up.
An incident mentioned in the book speaks of a bus driver who used to greet the 70 students of the bus and have fun by singing “Happy Birthday” when a kid used to enter the bus and all of them including that kid would burst out laughing. This made them feel that the conductor noticed and cared about them.
Similarly once when we had gone to Pizza Hut, on knowing that it was one of my friends birthday the employees who served us danced for her while we cheered and clapped. It was very unexpected but very sweet on their part for making her day and making the lunch a memorable one. Every time the customers left all of them would scream in unision, “Thank-you” which “made a difference”.

Be there: Right here, right now:
"Being fully present for one another and doing it with wholeheartedness."
This is what is meant by "living each day to the fullest" and making each day a happy one.
One can feel happy after achieving something only by "giving your 100%" into any work you do.
The fishmongers gave their full attention to each customer and treated them not like a customer but like their best friend.
One such incident mentioned in the book that signifies this, is about an elderly women who was looking for blush in the optical store. The store employee could have just pointed towards the cosmetics shop but she took her time off to walk her to the adjacent cosmetic store. The elderly woman was grateful to her and blessed her with all her heart.
In college when a girl had come to do PR ing for her intercollegiate fest, she stopped me and my friends to give us information about the events while doing so she did not maintain eye contact with a few of us so I interrupted her and asked with a smile, “Cant we take part?coz your only looking at those few." After I said so she apologized and made eye contact with each one of us.

Last but not the least and the one that I believe is the most important because the previous three can be followed only if we have the right attitude towards what we want to do.

Choose your attitude: Making choices:
As William James rightly said, “The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitude.”
By choosing our own attitude we need not try changing others but make it known that they had a choice to do the right.
"Life is made up of many choices but some are made for you and some aren’t, it is our attitude that shows the path to the right choice meant for us."
Hence only because of the positive attitude and by making simple but correct choices, the fishmongers were able to keep up their reputation and their counter bells ringing.
The following incident mentioned in the book shows that choosing your attitude is also within the reach of a six-year old.
A six year old’s mother introduced the FISH! Philosophy to her daughter. A week later when the little girl was getting ready for school on a rainy morning she said to her mom,” Mommy its raining outside but I am going to have a FISH day.”
I am terrified of heights something I have developed recently, so during our college fest when we had rappelling as one of the events since I was the only one who had never tried it all my friends forced me to try it so it would remove my fear of heights but I refused immediately. On thinking now, I feel my attitude was wrong, the least I could have done was gone and put on the safety ropes and if I still felt scared I could have backed out. May be next time I’ll try it!

So this puts an end to the FISH! Philosophy that was introduced by the fishmongers of Pike Place Market and hence earned them millions of fans around the world who follow this philosophy in their everyday life and hopefully by me too!
